Exercise physiology

This research line explores human physiological responses to exercise across diverse environmental and functional conditions. These studies advance understanding of human performance, metabolic function, and physiological resilience.

Research Activities

Study of the physiological responses to exercise in extreme environments: exposure to hypoxia (terrestrial or simulated, acute or chronic) in both Caucasians and high-altitude natives; microgravity (bed rest studies) on the skeletal muscle oxidative metabolism.

Experimental tests conducted on athletes, healthy sedentary subjects, and patients suffering from various pathologies by means of treadmill and ergometers (cycle ergometer, specific ergometers for the upper limbs, and leg-kick ergometer).

Assessment of the effects of interventions such as dietary changes, pharmacological, training/rehabilitation, immobility, exposure to hypoxia in different settings.
