I graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery in Milan. I then obtained a PhD in Human Physiology and specialized in Sports Medicine. I am currently a researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Technologies of the National Research Council and an adjunct professor of General and Sports Physiology at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. My field of interest is the study of metabolic, ventilatory, and cardiovascular adaptations to physical exercise in both healthy individuals (sedentary or athletes) and patients with various pathologies (heart transplant recipients, myopathies, etc.). I also deal with physiological adaptations to high altitude and I have participated in several scientific expeditions to Nepal (at the Pyramid laboratory, located at an altitude of 5050 m), Tibet, and the Alps. I am author and co-author of over 75 original publications in international journals, for some of which I also serve as a reviewer.

Study of the physiological responses to exercise in extreme environments: exposure to hypoxia (terrestrial or simulated, acute or chronic) in both Caucasians and high-altitude natives; microgravity (bed rest studies) on the skeletal muscle oxidative metabolism.

Experimental tests conducted on athletes, healthy sedentary subjects, and patients suffering from various pathologies by means of treadmill and ergometers (cycle ergometer, specific ergometers for the upper limbs, and leg-kick ergometer).

Assessment of the effects of interventions such as dietary changes, pharmacological, training/rehabilitation, immobility, exposure to hypoxia in different settings.
