Lifestyle and environmental epidemiology

This research line examines how modifiable behaviours—such as physical activity, smoking, and sleep—and environmental exposures influence disease risk, identifying key opportunities for prevention across the life course.

Research Activities

Lifestyle and ICT-based intervention studies in age-specific cohorts for the prevention or for the control of disease progression of neurodegenerative (dementias, Parkinson's disease) and metabolic diseases (type II diabetes, overweight/obesity, and metabolic syndrome), and functional performance (sarcopenia).

Study of neurodegenerative diseases (i.e. cognitive impairment, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease) focused on identification of modifiable risk factors (e.g. lifestyles), disease assessment and progression.

Evaluation of the effectiveness of a lifestyle intervention program to improve metabolic, cognitive and/or functional performance.
