Population aging poses major health, social, and economic challenges, with increased longevity linked to higher prevalence of chronic diseases, multimorbidity, disability, and frailty among older adults. International initiatives such as the WHO Decade of Healthy Ageing and EU research programs emphasize the need for innovative, preventive, and multidisciplinary approaches to understand the biological mechanisms of aging, identify biomarkers, and promote healthy longevity. Key priorities include studying cellular and molecular processes, immune system changes, environmental determinants, and frailty, while fostering greater inclusion of older individuals in research. In this context, integrated strategies combining biomedical, clinical, and population-based research, aligned with the emerging “Precision Aging” paradigm, are essential. Preventive factors, particularly nutrition, play a central role, as nutritional imbalances contribute to cognitive decline, while nutraceuticals with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuromodulatory properties may help delay cognitive aging and dementia. The proposed project leverages the multidisciplinary expertise of DSB institutes to advance an integrated research framework aimed at understanding and modulating the aging process.
