The main goal of the project is to develop and implement advanced technologies for measuring and monitoring comorbidities associated with sarcopenia in elderly patients. The objective is to develop an integrated technological system, consisting of both fixed measurement devices, which can be used in healthcare facilities, and mobile devices, which can be used at the elderly patient’s home, allowing continuous monitoring, including remote monitoring, by interfacing, for automated data acquisition, with a software system for the collection and analysis of clinical and measurement data that enables monitoring and management of the analyzed cases. The operational modalities of the system primarily refer to assessment and monitoring and include: 1) prevention and early diagnosis, understood both as the diagnosis of sarcopenia and related comorbidities (cardiovascular diseases, depression and dementia, diabetes mellitus, respiratory diseases, renal failure, obesity, and cancers), and as targeted intervention to prevent adverse health outcomes and the resulting increase in mortality rate (cognitive deterioration, falls, fractures); 2) continuous monitoring, understood both as the evaluation of the effectiveness of therapies (physical exercises, pharmacological therapies, nutritional measures) and as continuous communication between the doctor, caregiver, health and social care operator, and patient.
