Exposome
CNR‑ITB investigates the impact of environmental and lifestyle factors on human health through an integrated exposome approach. Activities focus on understanding how diet, microbiota, and environmental exposures interact with biological systems to influence aging and disease risk. In particular, CNR‑ITB studies the diet–gut–brain axis, exploring how nutritional interventions modulate gut microbiota and affect brain aging and systemic health.
The institute also conducts clinical and pilot studies to assess the effects of dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet, on microbiota composition and clinical outcomes in patients with chronic diseases. In addition, CNR‑ITB contributes to large collaborative initiatives on biodiversity and health and investigates the role of lifestyle factors in promoting healthy aging, combining epidemiological, molecular, and systems biology approaches to support preventive and precision medicine strategies.
